Safeguarding

Safeguarding is:

  • Protecting children from maltreatment

  • Preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development

  • Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care

  • Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

Safeguarding at Spen Valley High school is everyone's responsibility. However, we have a team of staff to whom specific safeguarding concerns should be reported, these staff can be easily identified by their pink lanyards.

Mr M Grainger Designated Safeguarding Lead (Assistant Headteacher)
Mr R March  Deputy Safeguarding Lead
Ms H Clacy Headteacher
Mrs S Jagger Deputy Headteacher
Mr K Audsley Deputy Headteacher
Miss A Johnson Safeguarding & Inclusion Manager (Deputy DSL)

Safeguarding concerns

If you need to report a safeguarding concern, please contact a member of our Safeguarding Team - click here.

All staff are trained on Safeguarding and understand the importance of safeguarding our students.

Safeguarding training consists of face-to-face training, online e-learning modules, a knowledge testing quiz, and mandatory reading.  All staff are required to read and understand the Statutory guidance for schools and colleges on safeguarding children.

We always follow the most up-to-date safeguarding guidance and update our policies accordingly.

Wellbeing & Support

As well as supporting our students we want to ensure we are supporting our families too.  To avoid 'information overload' we have pulled together the contact details for support both in school, locally & nationally into an A to Z which can be found via the below link:
