Snow Days and Online Learning
In case of severe weather, which may affect the school, especially snow, we will always try to make a decision as early as possible so that you can make any necessary alternative arrangements for your child/children.
We will survey the situation; this includes checking if we have enough staff who can travel safely into school to supervise our students. We will then communicate any closure information to parents and carers as quickly as possible. This will also be the case if the school is to remain open. Communication methods are as below and will be implemented as follows;
(i) A message will be sent out via Class Charts alerting you of the school closure
(ii) or that there is a late start (the time will be stated) which gives time for enough staff to get to school safely.
(iii) We will post a notice on the school website and via our Instagram account (spenvalley_highschool).
(iv) We will also inform Kirklees Local Authority who will post this on their website.
In the event of the school being closed we will revert to LIVE learning on Teams.
If you do not hear anything from us, the school will be open. Please be assured that we only decide to close the school in exceptional circumstances, where the safety of students is the primary concern.
Live Lessons on Teams: In the event of a school closure, students will be expected to complete their lessons for the day online. In this instance, students will follow their normal school timetable for the day (an electronic copy of which can be accessed via the ClassCharts app), and log into Microsoft Teams. Students log into Microsoft Teams using their school email address and password on www.office.com and clicking on the Microsoft Teams icon on the left hand side of the webpage. Alternatively, students can log in to Microsoft Teams directly on https://www.microsoft.com/en/microsoft-teams/group-chat-software. Once logged into Microsoft Teams, students will click on the Team for their lesson and access the live lesson using the link which is posted on the Team channel.
